History
HISTORY OF OUR KUDUMBAYOGAM
As desired by many of our family members in North America, a brief history of OUR KUDUMBAYOGAM is prepared. It is very much simplified so that everybody can easily understand.
Like all other Syrian Christian families we start with St. Thomas (The Apostle of India) disciple of Jesus Christ.
AD 52 St. Thomas apostle came to India (Kodungalloor in Kerala).
He started 7 and a half churches in Kerala.
Brahmin Nampoothirys were converted to Christianity.
One of them from Perambra Illam of Koratty in Kochi was our fore father.
He was christened and named Thoma.
When family expanded some of his offspring’s moved to Manimala.
Flooding and natural calamities forced them to move.
Our forefather came through Manimala River and reached Mallappally.
At that time only Hindus were in Mallappally.
The Iredathu family (Nampoothiri) gave refuge to our forefather.
His expertise in martial arts (kalari) impressed Poovana Panicker.
He became Thoma Ashan teaching the kalarippayattu by the help of Panicker.
The eastern side (kizhakayil) of the granary area (kalappura) for shelter given to our grandpa.
The place was a small hill west of the Manimala River and north of Mallapplly Junction (bridge).
That hill later known as Bhagavathykkunnu and became Pawathikkunnel as known now.
The nearest church was in Niranam at that time.
Our Grandpa prospered and made a big house (valiyaveedu in Malayalam).
That house became the original place for Valiaveettil branch and east of that remained as Kizhakayil (The Kalappura mentioned above) when our family expanded as given below.
Family expansion for 12 generations remain unknown.
In the 13th generation 3 sons Chacko, Thoma and Kochitty were born.
Kochitty as the youngest stayed with father in Kizhakayil.
Thoma was retained in the Valiyavveedu known later as valiyaveettil.
Chacko was moved little west to a new house namely Chavanickamannil.
They are the forefathers of the three main branches of our family.
There after the family expansion was in a big way/global way.
They helped starting churches in Kallooppara, then Vengalassery(south),Holy Immanuel (North) in Mallappally and a number of other churches as the family expanded.
The Chavanickamannil family expanded as Modayil, Chavanickamannil and Enattu.
Kizhakayil further branched out as Panickamuryil, Panamthottam, Plavumkal, Thottumkal, Palathunkal, Poruvathil, Pathiyeppallikkara, Karakkattu, Kalchira, Cheeramkulam,Madathikkulam etc.
Valiaveettil expanded as Theralickal, Thondolickal, Thoppil, Poovathinkal, Nedumannil, Kaithakkuzhy etc.
Chavanickamannil gave birth to Enattu, Kallupurayil, Thuruthippallil, Mankuzhikkal, Vellavoor, Chelakombu etc.
The Modayil section expanded as Koipram, Modayil east and west. Then a lot of branches sprang up like Melathekkuttu, Thazhathekkuttu, Adavimannam, Vazhepparambil, Thundyil, Arampulickal, Kavil, Puthukkulam, Bungalavil, Naithafficil, Mavumgal, Adekkavil,Kuttickalal,Puthenpurackal etc.
There may be more names known differently in that locality were they live.

Then we began Zoom meetings for monthly prayers. The difficult situation was well managed to conduct a one day ANNUAL ZOOM MEETING on July 25th 2020. The first zoom meet turned out to be global making way for our family members to enter it from any place in the world.
This is an honest effort to convince our family members in North America that we are unique and going strong. We a have done plenty of activities to be listed. Compared to any immigrant extended family we did more and can do a lot more in future .We can proudly tell the world that we could help all the people approached us for any help throughout our existence. We have men, women, children and the necessary potential with all good qualities of human life. Please come forward with good suggestions and actions to improve and progress to flourish as one unified family in this land.
